Why expats choose international health insurance

Public healthcare in Denmark and Sweden is available once you are registered as a resident. An international plan works alongside it and gives you more choice, speed and flexibility.

Faster access

  • Shorter waiting times for specialists and treatment
  • Access to private hospitals and clinics
  • Second medical opinions from experts

Cover beyond the Nordics

  • Use your cover in your home country
  • Covered when you travel for work or leisure
  • Keep your plan if you move again

Care in your language

  • 24/7 multilingual helplines from the insurer
  • Local advice in English from our team
  • Help with claims and pre-approvals

Living in Denmark or Sweden

Both countries have strong public healthcare systems. Here is how an international plan can complement them.

  • Expats in Denmark

Once you are registered with a Danish personal registration number (CPR), you have access to the public healthcare system through your general practitioner. Waiting times for specialists and non-urgent treatment can be long, and services such as dental care and physiotherapy are only partly covered. An international plan gives you faster access and cover outside Denmark.

  • Expats in Sweden

Once you are registered as a resident with a Swedish personal identity number, you have access to regional public healthcare. Waiting times for specialists and planned treatment vary between regions. An international plan gives you more choice of doctors and hospitals, and cover when you travel or visit home.

  • Moving on?

Many expats do not stay in one country forever. With an international plan, your cover can follow you to your next posting, so you do not have to start over with a new insurer or a new health assessment.
